More info... PalmChess has six levels: instant, 2, 5, 10, 30, and 60 seconds per move. PalmChess takes *exactly* this long to move, which leads to bad behaviour on fail-lows, for which more time is required to find a saving move. The other contenders for the iPAQ are PocketChess (using the ancient SCP engine), or perhaps an old DOS version of Fritz or Genius running in a PC-XT emulator (which claims an effective speed of 8MHz on a 75MHz platform, or about 20MHz on an iPAQ). I'm surprised nobody has tried to port some other free engine to WindowsCE, such as Crafty, The Crazy Bishop, Phalanx, or GnuChess. I might give it a go at the end of February when the next MSDN comes out, which will include the latest PocketPC dev tools. Also, remember the Chess Machine cards? They were ARM based, making me wonder how easy it would be to port the engines which ran on it (The King and Rebel). Ian
