Thorsten knows that I will not let this stand unanswered ...
First of all, I would love to see him refrain from calling Fritz games
"shit". Thank you.
Second, as you can see from *his* game score, Fritz only got 7 ply deep
on Thorsten's machine on the 1st move out of book (indeed a very
questionable "novelty").
Why is this so? Thorsten did not let Fritz "analyze" the starting
position first, waiting for Windows to allocate the memory for the swap
file and stopping analysis when swapping ended.
He instead started immediately to play, Fritz had to wait 99% of the
pondering time of the first move (out of book, that is) for Windows 95
to complete swapping (Windows NT 4.0 doesn't have this problem, by the
way). So Thorsten simulated an 8088/4.77 Mhz for Fritz for the 1st move
which is simply an opening blunder (detracting Fritz to defense on the
king side while being unable to cover its weakness on the queen side).
Additionally, Thorsten (unlike the SSDF) didn't use the Fritz PowerBooks
which give the theory move 12...f5 instead of 12...O-O, preventing the
mess we saw in this game.
For your amusement, I let some Fritz engines fight out this position
beginning with the 12th black move and without opening books at 60/60
time controls.
The results are (P233/MMX):
Hiarcs 6 - Fritz 5: 1-0
Fritz 5 - Hiarcs 6: 1-0
Junior 4.6 - Fritz 5: 0-1
Fritz 5 - Junior 4.6: 1-0
Fritz played quite well in all of these games, no need for me to
classify any program or its moves as "shit". The result of 3/4 again
shows that Fritz is not quite as bad as Thorsten would like you to
believe ...
Below you find the PGN file with embedded variants, I recommend to view
it in Fritz 4/5 or ChessBase/Windows (Light or 6.0 will do) ...
