Last night Shredder 3.0 played this line as white against a friend at my local FICS server: 1. d4 c6 2. c4 Nf6 3. Nc3 d5 4. e3 dxc4 5. Bxc4 b5 6. Bxb5 and got a lost position after 6... cxb5 7. Nf3 a6 8. O-O Bb7 9. Bd2 e6 10. a4 b4 11. Na2 a5 12. Nc1 Bd6 13. Nd3 Ba6 14. Qe2 Ne4 15. h3 O-O 16. Rac1 Nd7 17. Nfe1 Ndf6 18. Nf3 Qb6 19. Rc2 Rac8 20. Rcc1 Qb8 21. Rfd1 The time limit used was 5 min.+ 3 sec./move. Isn't 6.Bd3 the "natural" move? I can't see why Shredder played 6. Bxb5. Even after 7.Qf3 Bd7! 8.Qxa8 Bc6 9.Qxa7 Bxg2 10.Nxb5 Nc6 black has a better position. I tryed the book of Shredder 4 and nothing has changed. Switched to Shredder5 and it still considers 6.Bxb5 while in analysis mode. Tried my "old" Fritz 5.16. It plays 6.Bd3 in less than 2 minutes. What is the problem here? How can I fix that? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Comparing the 2 programs, I think Fritz opening book is much easier to change (the tree can be edited very easily). That's one of the features of Shredder I really don't like. A. Ponti A. Ponti
