Then it is working differently for me than for you. I'm not familiar with
Gandalf, presumably a winboard engine(?). I'm not familiar with Winboard, but
don't have anything extra installed in that regard. I simply installed CM8000
clean then applied the patch clean, nothing extra. It is presumably the US
version (chessmaster.exe had the proper number of bytes), which was purchased
via their advanced sales in October then shipped to me in Illinois in November.

I tried it several times in different ways. It always had the extra king engine
running in Game Room, and I couldn't get rid of it. It was only half as fast as
the unpatched version to analyze a position in the Thinking Lines window in a
human vs human game . I don't know exactly what is relevant here, but some of my
system information is:

Microsoft Windows 98 4.10.2222 A
Normal mode
Hewlett-Packard with 500MHz Intel(r) Celeron(tm) Processor
191MB RAM
70% system resources free
Windows-managed swap file on drive C (10684MB free)
Available space on drive C: 10684MB of 12398MB (FAT32)

Internet Explorer:

Content Advisor	Disabled
Update Versions	;SP1;Q279328;
Java VM Version	5.0.3319.0

DirectX 7.0 (4.07.00.0716)

Rockwell HCF 56K Data Fax PCI Modem with Master Riptide PCI Audio Device on the
same board, and Riptide PCI Audio Legacy Resources manufactured by Conexant.
This is a software-controlled sound system, with no separate sound card. I have
the latest drivers. The same Conexant drivers update both the modem and sound.
