That's probably the answer. Do the minimal install, or a custom install and
deselect the movie option. The options during a custom install are:

Graphics for Interface (4208 K)
Graphics for Chess Sets (15313 K)
Graphics for Computer Personalities (1281 K)
Audio for Move Announcements (7155 K)
Data for Classic Chess Games (1425 K)
Database (79084 K)
Custom Database files (7238 K)
Audio for Move Advice (113242 K)
Audio for Josh Waitzkin Tutorials (267196 K)
Tutorials (313370 K) <-- Actually, this should read AUDIO for tutorials
Intro Movie (11141 K)

Then if you don't want the movie to play, try modifying your cm.ini file to set
all instances of IntroMovie=0
