Mr. Nance,

For database size and functionality go with Century 3.0.  The database of
800,000 games will keep you busy for 100 years.  For playing strength I like
Chess Tiger 13.0.  You will probably lose to all of the programs on today's 500+
Pentium/AMD PCs.  They are all in the top ten world-class programs.

My favorite is Gambit Tiger 1.0 playing with the new Jeroen Noomen Gambit book
(downloadable from the Rebel site}.  It plays wild and creative chess.
