It does not make sense.
There was never an improvement of more than 100 elo in Fritz in one year and
hiting 3 and 4 plies deeper suggest clearly more than it.

I am sure that if chessbase could make Fritz6 search 3-4 plies deeper by some
secret algorithem they will be the first to tell it to the public

I guess that you do something wrong.
Maybe there is a virus in your pIII600.
It is also possible that it is not the problem and your pIII600 is slower
because you ran another application and did not restart your computer after it.

If You restart your pIII600 then you may discover it.
