The clocks will give a true story if you use accuclock.

From chess.net.

accuclock

Accuclock is a program provided free by chess.net to reduce the time lost on
your chess clock due to lag. CNFW95 and chess.net JAVA have the interface
built-in. At present, accuclock is available for UNIX and WinBoard use.

The program is available by going to ftp://www.chess.net/pub and downloading the
appropriate file.

To use accuclock with UNIX instead of telnet, just type: ./accuclock

To use accuclock with WinBoard, do the following:

Open a DOS window
point to the directory where accuclock is installed
type 'accuclck -p 1000'
Make a shortcut for WinBoard.exe with the following parameters:
-icshost localhost -icsport 1000 -ics
(Note: you may use any number instead of 1000, but you are more likely to have
success with numbers equal to or greater than 1000)
If you encounter problems, ask for assistance in the 'help' room, or contact an
admin.
