There are improvements in both areas, and in other areas as well.
A non-exhaustive summary of the changes (by head, I can forget some...):
* Tablebase support... well if Eugene gives his permission. I still have to ask
him for permission, so don't tell anybody that the next Tiger will support the
Nalimov tablebases yet. :)
* An improved selective search. Tiger reaches the same ply depths faster (or if
you prefer can search deeper in the same time).
* Many endgame improvements including:
* better knowledge of remote passers
* Tiger can mate with KBN against K
* ...
* Improved book learning.
* Better support of non-PC platforms.
* ...
The resulting ELO improvement is significant and justifies the change in the
major version number.
