I did not think about it for gandalf but for shredder.

Shredder was not number 1 in this tournament when in almost every competition
that stefan plays it is number 1(even in a competition when it had an hardware
disadvantage and programs like old parallel Fritz5.xx,Ferret, old Deep
Junior5.xx and old Nimzo participated).

Being 100 elo better than programs like these programs is not enough to be
number 1 in almost every tournament because the number of games is relatively
small so the results suggest that shredder is about 200 elo better than the
other top programs.

It is also possible that shredder was lucky but when I see luck for shredder in
every tournament when the programmer is involved then I start to suspect that it
is not only luck but also better opening preperation.

I used Gandalf for my correspondence games but I am not convinced that it is
best for correspondence games.

I saw a case when gandalf evaluated positions in the middle game as +2 but could
make no progress.
I also remember cases in enrique tournament when gandalf lost against Deep Fritz
when Deep Fritz sacrificed the excahabge and Deep Fritz understood the position
better than gandalf.

I agree and the point is that Shredder get better ranking than Fritz in every
tournament that I know when both programs play and the programmers are present.
