Gandalf refused the draw vs Fritz in Paderborn. This brings back the memory of the battle for the crown between Schlechter and Lasker. The story goes that Karl would have been worldchampion, had he not refused the draw in the final game. Just came across a very interesting book/novel about this match. It's in german and called "Carl Haffners Liebe zum Unentschieden" which would translate to "Carl Haffner's love for the Draw." And "Carl Haffner" is of course Karl Schlechter. The highlight of the book is the 10th game of the WC match. There we find that Haffner strongly rejected the thought of becoming worldchampion by ending the match with a draw. This book was published in 1998 and written by Thomas Glavinic from Austria. Don't know if it has been translated to English. Sune
