First I would like to say that I'm new here (I've being lurking for months though)..and know next to nothing about computer chess. compared to most of you who are chess programmers. so I hope I'm not brothering you people too much with my naive questions.If this is the wrong forum to bring up such question..just tell me and I'll zip up :) Sorry for rambling...Now for one more question! I heard that deep blue has evalution tables that VARY accodring to position rather than one STATIC evlaution values for all positions. IS this unique? Or do other programs do this too? USing my favourite chessmaster has an example. Eg It would play like Kasparov style in a king Indian like position but switch to a "karpov" style in positions.where black has isolated d -pawns, etc.. Of course we can;t actually 100% emulate these players..But certainly we can say that the improtance of various potential factors depends on the position. Eg Open positions means that development is extremly improtant, while development is less valued in closed positions. This leads to the question how to classify difference positions (based on pawn chains?) and how many positions?.
