Sorry to say this, but the P4 is real slow for chess programs. A P4 running at
1.7GHz should not be faster than a 1 GHz PIII (maybe much slower even) and
coupled with PC600 memory (the not hideously expensive RDRAM) it would be a real
dud. Clockspeed does not compare between different processor cores, the PIII and
P4 have little in common except having the ability to run the same programs, and
an Athlon 1.2 GHz seems the better buy considering the OC potential.
