Hi Howard,
[D]8/4k1p1/5p2/KP6/P7/4r2p/3R4/8 w - - 0 1
Here is my analysis on the move 1. Kb6.
There is an improvement in 3...g3 (your suggestion) to 3...Ra3! which maintains
black's advantage see analysis below.
1.Kb6 also a nice idea, using the a-pawn, this is quickly suggested by Chess
System Tal, its disadvantage though is, the black king blockades his own pawn at
b-file.
1...g5 2.a5 g4 3.Rh2!
[if 3.a6? Ra3! a timely rook shift 4.a7 Rxa7 5.Kxa7 g3-+]
3...f5! 4.a6 f4 5.Ra2!
[5.a7?! Ra3-+ white here cannot guarantee a clear equality]
5...g3 6.a7 g2 7.a8Q Re6+ 8.Kc7 g1Q 9.Qd8+ Kf7
10.Qd5 Qb6+ 11.Kc8 Kg6-+ and black still dominates.

Dinan
