After downloading and installing ChessBase Light, try double-click a CBV file.
If it does not work, then you need to have ChessBase 8, Fritz6, or other
ChessBase new friends to open CBV files.

You can try it yourself. Double-click a CBV file. When it is open, double-click
the first line at the top of the database list to open a text file. Make sure it
is text and not a game list. If you do not see a text file in the top list, then
this CBV file does not contain a text file.

Hope this helps.
