This message is related to the last one I posted (few days back) about porting chess engines to Win32. FYI: the current methods of achieving the same functionality of the UNIX select system call on Win32 (PeekNamedPipe or GetNumberOfConsoleInputEvents) seem to perform well under Windows 2000 and Windows 9x/ME. The CSRSS.EXE processor hogging issue I ran into seems to be the result of a bug in a prerelease version of NT that I was running on... which explains why no one else was screaming "bloody murder" when they saw the search speed of their engine. Hopefully this will get fixed before the next release of NT. Scott
