There is no commercially available DOS version of THE KING (only TASCbase, but this doesn't even have a real opening book, using the database index instead ...) 2. ChessMaster 5000 repeatedly crashes on all my machines when trying longer analysis or sometimes even during games at 40/120 tc when the opponent dares to ponder "too long" on its move (my machines have 128MB, 80MB, 32MB RAM and differ in all other aspects, CPU, graphics card, soundcard, ...). Mindscape never fixed this. The bug is IMHO inexcusable and dramatically diminishes the value I perceive in the program. So maybe the price is not too low, after all. 3. THE KING is a *very* strong program. With proper opening books it would certainly get good results on every rating list. Moritz
