I'm not qualified to assess the level of play. But Personally I don't find Virtual chess II that strong. Here is my first semi serious game against Virtual chess 2 White : Aaron (1700+ Standard FICS) Black : Virtual Chess 2 (P60 /w 16MB RAM 1874k Hash tables) Time control 30 mins per game 1e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 e6 6 g4 Nc6 7g5 Nd7 8 h4 e5 9 Nf5 Nb6 10 Bh3 Be6 11 Ne3 Be7 12 b3 Nd4 13 Bb2 0-0 14 Qh5 d5 15 0-0-0 Bxh3 16 Rxh3 Qc8 17 Rg3 g6 18 Qg4 dxe4 19 Qxe4 Nc6 20 Ncd5 Nxd5 21 NXd5 Re8 22 h5 b5 23 hxg6 fxg6 24 Rh1 Qe6 25 Nc7 Qd7 26 Rxa8.. 1-0 probably. final time 15 mins : 17 mins The game was stopped at this point. I was reallly surprised at the ease of which I played into a winning position.Perhaps the slow processor speed of my computer is to blame. However personally My experience is that a P60 coupled with a "modern" program is more than sufficient to easily defeat me. Another possibility is that I was playing extremly well ! This is unlikely since I was playing the game late at night at 2AM. Another possiblity is that this result was just a fluke. I somehow managed to lure the computer into a weak opening. 8...e5?! looks like a weak move but I'm no expert in openings. All I know is that the kere's attack is good enough to scare Kasparov such that he plays only the schievgan through a difference move order (a6) Last but not least, it could be that background programs (which I closed before opening virtual chess 2) could have slowed down the computer?
