a few programs have surprised me so far. crafty e.g. has played very nice against chessmaster IMO. i hope this continues. do i need an update ? or is 18.3 ok so far ? a surprise was yace. yace, patzer, even comet played - up to a certain point where it was about zugwang , very good. the amateurs get stronger and stronger. zchess. and the game of goliath against rebel-tiger. this was really a tough game. it seems this gives enough fresh blood into the professionals to bring development and enough pressure under them. they HAVE to care. i think nimzo8 is stronger than nimzo7.32. the main lines do not show the piece-forward, piece-backward behaviour. they made IMO more sense. i am disapointed by cstal, chessmaster8000. i hope they will present better games in the next rounds. so far their games worried me much. ok . till saturday.
