 You are very far from looking stupid, Dieter. I see it this way:

 1)It's a study where white moves to win. The trick is to unlock
   the position by forcing black to end the repetitions.

 2)After 11.Kc7 it's fulfilled. Black has to take on f7 because
   of the threat Be8, Bc6 mate.

 3)After 15.Kxe7 it's finished and totally clear that white wins
   in several ways. Guess the source (the author?) chose to show the
   first given line (ending with 18.-g1Q and e8Q mate) for aesthetical
   reasons. It's a clean, running end with two queens on the board
   where black has promoted first. Not the fastest way though, as
   noticed by you and Yace. And the analysis of Yace is of course correct...
