You mean you want to install tablebase files on your hard disk so that Fritz can
access them automatically.

It's very simple.

You have Fritz, so you have the Fritz cd.
It has a tablebase generator and some 3-4-5 pieces on the CD already generated.

If you want to generate them, use tbgen.exe and check the accompanying help file
which explains all.

If you copy the existing TB's from the CD-Rom create a directory on your hard
disk, copy the files to that directory, and look up the file
c:\windows\chssbase.ini

Open it with a text editor and paste this as the first lines of the file:

[Tablebase]
Path=C:\Tablebases
CacheSizeKB=8192

Of course Path=C:\Tablebases is the directory you copied the tablebases to.

Start Fritz and check in the engine window "use tablebases".

Off topic:
A tip for opening any file with any extension with notepad:
copy a shortcut of notepad.exe (to be found in your windows directory) to the
folder c:\windows\sendto

Now if you rightclick on a file you want to open with notepad you will see (send
to): notepad.exe in the popup menu. Clicking it will open the file using the
notepad text editor. Can be handy if something took your PGN association.
Works for other things to. Everything in the sendto folder will show up in the
right mouse popup menu.
