I disagree that you can go only down. Some chess players believe that deeper blue is not clearly better than the best commercial programs so you can go up from their point of view if you get a convincing victory against the commercial programs. IBM does not sell deeper blue but my guess is that it is going to be changed if someone will suggest 1,000,000,000$ for it. Uri
