It takes a magnifying glass and a cc freak like you and me and all of us
here to start talking in absolute terms about fast searchers and
knowledgeable programs.

They are all Rambos in disguise. For instance Hiarcs 6, the slowest top
program. It computes some 15,000 NPS. This is insultingly fast.

And they are all much more similar than different in their positional
play. I have yet to see a program playing like Capablanca or Karpov, or
like any strong player for that matter. No plans. Only ersatz.

So yes, it is to a great extent a matter of taste and preference for a
given style. We are not talking Bach and Mozart. Rather, we are
comparing a Sumo fighter of 180 kilos and another one of 160. One
graduated from secondary school and the other didn’t quite finish it.
It’s no more than this. Clever Rambos.

Enrique
