I think that it is the decision of thorsten and I do not see problems with it.

I think that you can look at it as a game between the programmers when the
target is not to find the best program but to find the winner out of the
programmers.

Christophe and Stefan(programmers of Tiger and Shredder) have an advantage
because they have two programs in the tournament when other programmers have
only one program but again I think it is the decision of thorsten and I see no
point in complaining when thorsten does not hide the facts.
