Robert Hyatt,
You try to win your argument by sheer volume of words and attempted
intimidation IMO. I am pro basement chess and I think it is a good pastime. I
don't know anything of:
>"WCCC events, each of the WMCCC
>events, each of the older ACM events, each of the paderborn events, each of
>the many other events where computers played but had their authors present and
>able to make adjustments to the book or the program between rounds. Note that
>that is _every_ major computer event ever held."
I think these type computer events have some merit. Still they cater to a
specific group who likes to get together and do such things.
I agree with your text, the tournament games quoted above mean nothing to me.
They are not representative of a publicly available product. It's not my
intention to prevent program improvement, I would just prefer if it didn't
happen mid-basement-tournament.
You often make your arguments excessivly black and white. I on the other
hand chose not to invalidate SSDF based on your argument or your intepretation
of what I write. Regards, Brian K.
