Aside from bugs (sigh), Tinker has drawn with humans from about -5 and lost/drawn with all opponents up to about +4. Both extremes are _very_ rare. I would estimate normally that +/- 2 against computers is typically decisive, and somewhat more for humans (since Tinker's evaluation function is not very sophisticated). Also, I have set Tinker's resign threshold to -5 for 3 consecutive moves. It probably could salvage some even worse positions tactically against some people, but I have never seen it claw back against another program. Overall, I suspect the narrower the range, the better the eval function. Brian
