So... do yah feel lucky? Actually, in this 30 minutes per move game between Comet & Crafty, both the new Chessbase Comet, and the most recent Dos Comet both came up with Be4 for Comet's last move (see position). [D]2b3k1/5q1p/pn1p2pb/1p1Pp3/1P5P/P2QN1P1/3B1PB1/6K1 w - - 0 41 Usenet's Paul Morphy said that according to Fritz, this game is headed to a draw when he saw it several moves ago. I hate draws. I'm going to start telling both programs where the tablebases are before this gets to the endgame, because I'd rather this game not go on forever. Pete BTW, in the text file that Chessbase included with the Comet engine this time: "Comet Engine version history: B31: - more tactical extensions in full search, if side to move is in check and has only one legal answer - refinement of forward pruning in depth 1 - some endgame knowledge added - looks more closely to pins [snip.............] B13: (Paderborn version) - more restrained cut-offs at the horizon - more endgame knowledge" It's so hard to find good help these days.
