From what I gather, increasing the cache size will increase performance slightly. But I can't remember if there are any general rules, eg. regarding hash and cache size combinations. The thing to remember is that RAM used is program+hash+cache, so you have to be careful not to increase the cache size too much considering your physical RAM. I don't think that you'll have any problems with 512MB on your machine. That could be divided as 160Mb hash+ 32Mb cache if you're running two programs at the same time and leave plenty for the OS. A cautious rule is available RAM minus 100Mb divided by two (if you running two programs). Mogens.
