Hello Laurence,
Your point is well taken but computers???  There should be no difference in
performance  at  tournaments unless the programmers are doing something special
at tournaments that us ordinary people do not do when making our own
comparisons.  Of course you can not compare a 10 game tournament to hundreds of
games played vs varied opponents or even a 10 game match vs one opponent.  They
are different things with different environments.  I owm Shredder 5 and I'm
pleased with the program.  I also received Deep Shredder free and I'm happy to
have it also.  I believe that Shredder is better at longer time controls/faster
computers than short time controls/slower computers.  It is not very impressive
as a blitzer but at 3 minutes / move it is very impressive in my opinion.  I
don't believe it's the strongest program out there at any time control but it is
one of the strongest at 3min/move.
