I respectfully disagree, good sir.  Bob wrote code into Crafty to take
advantage of multiple CPU's.  Following your logic, (for example),
if Christophe had pondering code but Bob didn't, CT would have to
operate with ponder=off.

The point I was trying to make is simple: let each program operate
under the conditions the author designed it for.

CT is undoubtedly a terribly strong program.  Despite the disadvantage
of being uni-processor, it may still be better.

I'd like to see the authors coordinate a six or ten game match on ICC.
