Lost is maybe too harsh a judgement, but white has weakened the black coloured
squares in his position. On a side note one cannot capture space, only control
it and white has to be careful not to swap the wrong pieces here i.e. the black
square bishop. As for the cramped part the white pieces are the ones restrained
by the position of the king side pawns, black can choose to deploy his pieces on
the kings side in reaction to whites setup. In short, whites position is
precarious and vulnerable to timely black pawn breaks in the center and on the
kings side as well as infiltration on the black fields by queen, bishop and
knight. These kinds of bull rushes with pawns work best if there are pieces to
attack with tempo and a weak king also, those factors are not present here. Of
course there are counterexamples as the advance variation in caro-cann but there
white is ahead in developement. But in general Nimzowitch's saying that all pawn
moves are bad is true, in the sense that as a pawn move is irreversible there
should be a concrete reason for the move.
