phatlinux might be for you then. You download it in windows, you run the install from windows, and start in from windows. It installs on your hard disk as if it was a windows application. You dont need to repartition your hard disk and that is good for the beginning Linux user. There are technical reasons why running from the windows partition is suboptimal, not from a security perspective really, there are superior filesystems available for Linux. http://www.phatlinux.com/
