i tried 5. .. e6, however at some point c5 is the best choice
and the positions falls into the same pattern.
5. Bf4 e6 6. Nc3 Bd6 7. Qd2 ...
and white position is fine.
At least I can not find an easy way to equalize the position with black.
For the most part black are fighting for equility or so it seems.
Which leads me to believe that a better plan for black is to attempt e5.

agreed ... ;-)
I watched crafty play and made it go back many times in order to evaluate
different plans. Tested about 30 permutations and let only five of them
to play out more than 17 moves.
