Very much to the point. I agree with you.

Searle is using old fashioned reasonning. Totally outdated. It's like asking and
insisting seriously on the chicken-or-egg question now that we have learned
about species evolution. That's a question made up to confuse kids.

BTW it sounds like an intelligence test. The guy draws a frame, draws several
points into the frame and asks where, logically, the next point should be drawn.
Many people fail on this test because they try to find a solution INSIDE the
frame. But the solution point has to be drawn OUTSIDE of the frame.

Hey, this could be added to the so called "definition" of intelligence:
intelligence is drawing outside of the frame. :)
