How can it be that this has become an irreconcilable situation. It seems to me that the rating based on games via the autoplayer should be discarded, and the "machines" play via another mode, as they were in the past when very few disputes occurred. All of the software should be limited to using what is readily commercially available without the addition of special interfaces. I do not know if the older self-contained chess computers were allowed to use the additional book modules that used to be available, but if so, then todays programs should also be allowed to use the additional book if it is commercially available at the time the program goes to market. I would hate to see one of the top programers/developers for the last decade (no pun intended) suddenly drop out of sight because of these inconsistancies. Believe me people, those of us who are able to buy more than one companies product do so, and the pie is big enough to go around. As for the SSDF, they certainly need to listen to these concerns and decide if it is important to maintain the little integrity they have remaining by fixing these problems and returning to fair conditions. Otherwise they are about as useful as the USCF Computer Rating Agency, and we all know how accurate it has been since its inception at the request of Fidelity.
