I have had similar experiences with low rated players, like you say 1200-1800
playing sharp openings in ALL variations like they where Kasparov, kramnik or
maby Fritz 6 :-), against my account Gandalfprog (c) on fics and when you ask
them: how long have you played?, then out of vanity they say 1-2 years and i
then say (having more chess knowledge than they do) ie. so do you play this
najdorf (in some never played obscure variation) often, and they say something
like: sure i just happened to study this particular opening the last week or so,
i must be lucky here, and when i then say: that's funny 'cause this is the
scheveningen, a long pause follows and so does all the human blunders LOL.
Like Ingo i am baffled as to what trouble people will go to to cheat, one thing
is to use a prog against human players, not that i am for it, but there is some
reason to that, using prog's against prog's without telling the operator, whom
i'm sure would not mind the unrated challenge to play other prog's than Crafty
and rebel, i simply do not understand why people do that.
There, for me atleast, is a great satisfaction as a beta tester in setting up a
(c) account and having it play automated against all willing parties, to test
the engine and chatting to other operators about strongest settings etc. and to
run in to the odd IM or master who can give the program a "real" challenge, and
getting some inside info as to what could be better in a prog and it's opening
book etc, so why dont all cheaters get an account (c)? this is my question and
ofcause like Ingo i would like to hear from others with similar experiences.

Jonas
