Been on ICC for three years now. These computer cheats have the
idea that they will become strong by watching the software 'master'
show them the way against strong humans, ie, they are using the
chess playing program as a training aid. But it won't work. Learning
chess is an exercise in understanding, and the best way to learn is
the good old well chosen book and manual chess set.
I notice on ICC, some people, low rated like myself, are quite
strong for their rating, but I don't suspect them of cheating. Rather
they are, like me, victims of cheats. Their rating is stunted, just
as I believe mine is, by playing cheats.
The cheats will be around for as long as we can't see them. In
the years ahead some of us will only play people we can see.
I believe ICC can tell if someone is task switching, but of course the
cheats can get around that by using a cheap second computer.
