yes its piss poor performance, but the P4 has a very long pipeline. See what happened with the G4, when they increased the pipeline they obtained 733 MHz clock but the 733 MHz G4 seems hardly faster than the 500 MHz G4. But they can produce 1 GHz chips now that are a 35% faster than the old 500 MHz part
