Oh yes considering i had run several test sets and many have doubles and using chessbase light most of the times deletes games which aren't doubles. so i figure if there would be an easier way it would be some sort of alpha order if it sees rppp1r2/ it should either mark and then double check or something. the problem with test sets often it will have a duplicate position but one with white to play the other with black to play so even chessbase counts that. I figure if chessbase can't remove doubles from cbh files maybe there is a way to fix the problem before hand and a note for you since you plan on creating a utility i noticed something with the normalize feature in epd2diag , i had downloaded a test set from pre epd era and it wasn't readable so i thought i would try to run it in this program to fix the epd strings and it ended up not only removing the extra "/" but also the side to move. So i would suggest if you implement anything like this to have the program keep from deleting the wrong thing. I hope this is usefull for you. For now it looks like i will have to repair only errors in the files for now and go back later to remove doubles hopefully. thanks
