Well in Aus we have a thing called rigistered mail, and if you send it via that
method (a few bucks more than normal mail) if it dissapears, then the police are
actually called in. Cause for registered mail to vanish means someone stole it.

Thats is how I send expensive stuff within my own country, and if I was to send
it overseas. Most places you use to send have up to the minute parcel tracking
and insurence.
