Some because at one point UAB was on the blackhole spam list and the newer sendmails can use this to block email from known SPAM sites. The email always gets returned. Most SPAM filters do return the email, in fact, just to make a point... It is definitely possible to configure an email filter to drop messages into a black hole rather than return them. But this is pretty rare...
