and http://www.intel.com/procs/perf/main.htm
Specint 2000
Intel VC820 1.13 GHz PIII = 484 * - update Intel link
Intel VC850 1.3 GHz P4 = 484 * - update Intel
AMD GA-7DX 1.2 GHz Athlon = 496
Intel D850 1.5 GHz, P4 = 536
Note that your software (chess program) may run slightly faster/slower
on a specific processor. The above is an indication based on Crafty
and other applications. See www.specbench.org for complete breakout.
Based on the above, AMD looks like a great choice $$/Specint2000 and
GHz/specint2000. The PIII also looks good for $$/Specint2000 and
GHz/specint2000.
I could not find the specint2000 for AMD 1.3 GHz Athlon, but my guess
would be it is close to the 1.5 GHz P4 (maybe slightly higher or lower).
Only 10% performance difference (based on specint2000) or less between
the 4 processors above. This performance difference can vary depending
on the application (chess program) you choose.
