Stopping messages from certain domain names. I only think this would be useful to ban anonymous remailers. Other than that, it would probably be too restrictive. >b. Stopping messages from known bad user IP addresses. Definitely. We did that for Chessmaster Live, banning IP addresses as well as user names. These bans could range in length from 1 day to permanent. >c. Stopping messages with certain keywords in the Subject. Who's going to define the list of "bad words"? This was also tried with Chessmaster Live, and it proved almost entirely useless. We had a list of several hundred words, and it only stopped the people who couldn't think of new ways to type these certain words. >d. Stopping messages from certain keywords in the Subject body. See 'c'. >e. Consider the use of a software program to achieve any of the above. Who's going to pay for it? This is not really a moderator issue, since the moderators are not legally responsible for the content -- here, moderators are more the police, rather than the law (if that makes sense....). >f. One person's noice is another person's interest. Personally, I'm not very concerned about off-topic posts, as long as they are civil and don't explode into a huge thread. jm
