Hi Sarah,

I haven't read any of the other responses yet, so I can't say anything about the
suggestions of the other moderator candidates but this is just what I was
thinking about your questions. I think the board as it is is functioning fairly
well thanks to all the members, the moderators and Tim and Steven from
ICD-Chess. There will probably always be people in any community on the lookout
for ways to make a little trouble. Or a lot of trouble. You could maybe turn the
forum into Fort Knox or the virtual equivalent of Area 51 (You know, the
officially non-existing air-force base from the UFOs and X-files stuff) but
wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a public forum? If people want to make
trouble there is always a way to do that. Not that I don't wish that it wouldn't
be so easy to post here anonymously but bad accounts can always be deleted. I
hope things won't get so bad that every message will have to be scanned on
inappropriate language or subjects automatically. It seems a lot of trouble to
go design such a thing for just one person who maybe just wanted to give all the
members and moderator candidates something to do, liven up a bit an election
where nobody can fool around with the punch-cards..

Good ideas for the forum. That's a difficult question! I do like the idea of
on-line CCC-archives with a good search-function. That would also obviate the
need for a Frequently Asked Question list I think. People could in their message
refer to older messages in the archives. A problem might be that extensive
searches could take quite some time, it shouldn't go at the cost of the speed of
the message-board if that is at all possible. What I would like myself would be
that the archived messages could hold their subject-headers and not just be
stored by number. If that were the case I think I would search/browse more in
the older lists off-line, without even having to use an off-line browser. Many
people don't have flat-rate connections yet even if ADSL and cable-modems slowly
are becoming more available. Some things you wouldn't have like the diagrams,
but I would feed the EPDs in ECTool or EPD2DIAg or maybe some Word-macro I saw
at http://www.chessvariants.com/d.font/fonts.html Also there wouldn't be any
clickable links and follow-up links in the essages anymore but for the rest it
would still be very usable with intact titles. Chessfun, I can't think of any
more great ideas to improve the forum right now, but I think Tim Mirabile has
already done a lot for us!
