Very likely, because Microsoft has the strangest limitations in this respect:
Recently, my Win98 on my other old computer totally crashed (after a change of
the graphics card). I had to reinstall Windows.

I have a Windows 98 update CD from the installation which crashed, and a full
version of Win98 Second Edition from another computer which doesn't work anymore
because of mainboard failure. So I thought, I have to reinstall anyway, why not
use the Win98SE to have the more recent OS.

But what happens? The Win98 SE tells me, I can't install from the Win98SE CD
version - I should buy an *update version* instead!! Have you ever heard such a
ridiculous story? I have a full version, but I am *punished* because some older
Microsoft OS was installed previously on my computer, so cannot just install
new, and must update. Of course, I cannot update with the full version CD.

Finally, I reinstalled Windwos98 (first version) with the update CD again.

Probably I could have solved this by completely formatting the C:\ drive, which
I couldn't, because I have many installations of DOS chess programs on it, some
with a limited number of installations available...
