If you don't know what your PC is up to, kick the software off the platters
("on-ly you-ou........":))

Extra nodes come from two possible things: faster CPU speed or less processor
usage.

Talking Windows:
Tweaking software can improve system performance (mostly) by using better cache
settings, or by optimizing you harddisk (smaller partitions to reduce "waste")
etc.
It can also use tsr's to defragment or cleanup memory, by flushing the cache
more often, unload non used DLL's etc.

Most of these settings can be changed in the registry, and if you're not the
above average PC-buff, tweaking the registry yourself can be a potential hazard
to your PC's health.

So most of the time these kinds of programs tweak the obvious for you if you
know your way around, or "optimize" as they seem fit.

I have never seen a program that did what it promised.

Basically there's only one way to keep your Windows environment running
smoothly: don't run it at all. And because that leaves your PC inoperable, you
should choose the second best option: run as few programs as possible, and
prepare to carry the burden for each tsr program you run.

Check out http://www.regedit.com for some good tweaks.
