But not in all countries. You say that Bob assumes that the US reality
regarding computers is similar everywhere, but it is also true that
the reality everywhere does not have to be the one you live in France!

The point of the discussion (very informative to me, thanks) is not if the
computers are cheap or expensive in a particular country, but the ratio between
duals and single processors.
I am surprised that you cannot find in France people that can build one for you,
after all, the difference is just the motherboard. Isn't it?
That's what happen in many other countries. You cannot buy IBM, because it is
ridiculously expensive but they import tons of motherboards, chips etc. and
build them. In those situations, I do not see why duals should be
overpriced compared to singles.
BTW, your salary or Bob's is irrelevant because we are talking about people
that have a computer already for chess and want to upgrade.
(BTW, does not a Professor like Hyatt earns more money in France?)
