In a year or a week or whever, people will see your posts and wonder what you were using, and you might not remember yourself. The time control was 10 20, which is also an important thing to mention. I've been running Ferret on the Alpha since maybe late August or early September. It has been doing great, mostly. I have been wondering if this was all due to the hardware. I was concerned that if I backed off on the hardware that I might find that I made the software worse. So I created Mink. It runs the exact same program that runs on Ferret, but it runs on my old Pentium Pro 200, the same machine I took to Jakarta. Other than that this machine has 16 gigabytes of disk on it, it is in no way superior to the Alpha, it's slower and they have the same amount of RAM. Ferret on the Alpha was spending most of its time in the high 3000's. On the Pentium Pro, it sits around 3000 or a little lower. It is very hard to tell, because if you find a GM who has been drinking beer, the sky is the limit, and if you play against the opponent he creamed the previous day when he wasn't drinking beer, you lose points. But I still didn't expect it to hit 3000. bruce
