Dear Computer Chess Experts, I know next to nothing about computers. However, I will soon be purchasing a home PC which I will combine with a chess program to blunder-check my future correspondence chess games. The 1.33 GHz. AMD that I'm considering comes with 256MB of SDRAM. However, for $250 more, I can buy 256MB of DDR SDRAM which is touted as being super-fast for graphics. Here's my question: Does the DDR SDRAM have any application that will speed up chess programs for faster/deeper searches? If so, is it worth the increased cost? Since I have your attention, please allow me one more question. I've been visiting this board for some time now, just to try to gain an education about chess programs and computers prior to making my first big purchase. However, it seems that people only write about CPU speed regarding chess engine performance. Doesn't RAM also speed up the chess engine? I know it's helpful for for deep searches but thought that it also has an effect upon speed performance. Thanks in advance for you help and advice. Stephen Ham
