Subject: Re: DDR SDRAM Question

Go up one level in this thread

most of the ddr motherboards only have two dimm slots. so with two sticks of 256
megs of ddr memory, you would have 512 megs of ram. i have seen in these same
motherboard specs where they will support up to 1 gig or more of ram. so i
assume you could use two sticks of 512 ddr. this would give you 1 gig of ram.
but at the sites i have been, i have not seen sticks of 512.

becuse of this ram limitation, and the cost of the ddr, i went with the asus
a7v133 motherboard. it has 4 dimm slots. so i stuck 4 sticks of 256 megs of the
pc150 sdram in this system. as you can see this gave me 1 gig of ram. with the
unlocked 1.3 thunderbird, and watercooling, this thing rocks. just make sure
you have a good ice maker. i have not maxed out the overclocking yet. so i am
not sure of my max stable mhz yet. my goal is to hit 1400kns with fritz, in the
fritzmark test, with 128 megs hash setting. if not, then i will change my
cooling.

also another cool feature this motherboard has is the onboard promise controller
for raid o stripping. i mounted two of the 20 gig seagates, in raid o using this
feature to up my transfer rate.

i have just finished this gamer, so it will take me awhile to see how it does at
the game sites. but so far so good. this thing should be strong @ 1550 mhz with
the chris's new tiger.

good luck with yours
